1)There are about 24,500 gangs in the U.S.
2)40% of juveniles are gang members. I think the number of juveniles is high because some don't have parents to guide them through life and to turn them to the right path.
3)9 out of 10 boys in detention have some level of gang affiliation.
4)Their incarcernation is for drug use, larceny, petty theft, status offenses or domestic issues.

2)They are creating "Zero Tolerance" to crackdown any person looking like a gang member.
3)Immigrants from El Salvador living in the city's Pico Union area created the gang.
4)Becuase trying to catch all of the MS-13 members just makes them recruit much more ruthless members all over the U.S

Why I recycle!
1)One american produces 1,460 pounds of trash each year.
2)Saving Space- The landfill space can be used for other purposes like building homes, parks, businesses, etc.
**Saving Natural Resources- It can help by saving the natural rescources such as oil, plants, trees, metal, minerals, etc. So this will help save all the precious rescources we use daily.
**Saving Energy- It can help by saving energy which also comes from oil, coal or natural gas.
**Reducing Pollution- Factories that burn raw materials cause much more pollution than you think it does. But, if the factories were to burn recycable materials then it would cause much less pollution.
3)Reducing means to cut down on the trash & other wastes that we produce daily around the world.
4)Reusing means that instead of throwing away the trash that you produce daily, use them again if they are able to be reused again so you can not produce so much trash in a daily basis.
5)Recycling means that instead of throwing materials such as glass, plastic, steel, aluminum, and motor oil.
6)Garbage- In 1997, Americans produced 220 millions tons of waste which is a huge harm to our enviorment and space.
**Paper- By throwing away millions of paper, Americans are killing at least 500,000 trees every single week.
**Landfills- Some products can take between 100 to 400 years to decompose.
**Recycling- Americans can save 15 trees by recycling 1 tons of newspapers.
**Energy- If you recycle 1 bottle, you can save the amount of energy it takes to keep a 100-watt light bulb burning for 4 hours.

Problems with Landfills
1) A bottom liner is one or more layers of clay or a synthetic flexible membrane.
2)
A)The problem with Clay Liner is often cracked or dislocated.
B)The problems with plastic liner is household chemical will weather the HDPE making it loose and strength.
C)The problem with Composite Liners is all plastic Liners will have leaks.
3)A Leachate collection system is water that gets badly contaminated by contacting wastes. The problem with it is that it seeps to the bottom of a landfill and is collected by a system of pipes.
4)A cover or cap is an umbrella over the landfill to keep water out.
5)Another alternative would be to burn it, but that would pollute the air.

Landfills
1)Americans generate at a rate of 4.6 pounds per person.
2)32.5%.
3)55% of trash is thrown in landfills.
4)Dump is an open hole where trash is buried.
Landfill is a carefully designed structure built into or ontop of the ground.
5)It collects the rainwater from the landfill so it won't get flooded.
6)separates trash and subsequent leachate from groundwater.
7)In my opinion, i think that with all the trash that many Americans are producing each year. I think that the Landfills will overflow and it will cause major chaos.
