Parker was born in Lead City, but was raised in Deadwood, South Dakota. Parker became a police chief on August 9, 1950, and is credited with transforming with the LAPD
2) Second Migration of African Americans (out of the South --- to places like LA):
The second great migration was the migration of more than 5 million African Americans from the South to the North. It was much larger and of a different African Americans It was much larger and of a different character than the first great migration.
3)White Flight:
White Flight has been a term that originated in the United States, starting in the mid-20th century, and applied to the large-scale migration of whites of various European ancestries from racially mixed urban regions to more racially homogeneous suburban or exurban regions. It was first seen as originating from fear and anxiety about increasing minority populations.
Well, we were living in Baldwin Hills healing from the 1963 dam break. In the late 1960-s black youth were already getting out of control throwing rocks at home windows in nice areas in roving gangs. I was once beaten up as a young girl for my lunch money. What did you expect Caucasians to do with this invasion of a culture that was disturbing and violent, even threatening in certain circumstances? We didn't just get up one day and say "hey, blacks are moving in, let's move out". It was a gradual process based on the deterioration of the community and a dangerous Dorsey High School where whites were intimidated and beaten.
